Why Choose Rockford Fosgate R165X3 Full Range Car Speakers?
Balanced Audio Performance
The Rockford Fosgate R165X3 is a 6.5-inch 3-way full-range speaker set designed to deliver clear and balanced audio performance in-car audio systems. Its affordable price and reliable construction offer an excellent option for upgrading your factory speakers.
Polypropylene Cone That Provides Durability and Accurate Sound Reproduction
The R165X3 features a polypropylene cone that provides durability and accurate sound reproduction. It incorporates a silk dome tweeter and a piezo supertweeter, allowing for a bright, clear, high-frequency performance. The integrated crossover network ensures seamless blending of the different frequencies for a well-balanced sound.
Offers Ample Power for Most Car Audio Setups
With a power handling of 45 watts RMS and 90 watts peak power per speaker, the R165X3 offers ample power for most car audio setups. It has a sensitivity rating of 91 dB, which means it can produce robust sound even with low power inputs. The speakers have a standard 6.5-inch size, making them compatible with many car models.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why do the speakers sound quieter than my factory speakers?
Some factory systems use lower-impedance speakers or built-in amplification. If output seems low, check the wiring and polarity first. A properly matched amplifier can also provide more headroom and volume.
- • Why is the bass weaker than I expected?
These speakers can improve midbass, but they are not designed to replace a dedicated subwoofer. Check mounting, polarity, door sealing, and equalizer settings, since installation and vehicle acoustics strongly affect bass performance.
- • Will I need speaker adapters for installation?
It depends on the vehicle. Although the multi-hole mounting design fits many applications, some vehicles still require adapter brackets or modifications. Verify the mounting depth, hole pattern, and clearance before installation.
- • Why won't my factory door panel fit back over the speaker?
The center tweeter assembly can protrude above the mounting surface and interfere with some factory grilles. A suitable spacer or gasket may provide additional clearance and allow the panel to reinstall properly.
- • Why do I hear rattling after installing the new speakers?
Check the mounting screws, adapter brackets, door panel, and surrounding trim. Loose hardware or panels can vibrate with stronger audio output. Secure the speaker firmly and use appropriate foam gasketing where necessary.
- • Why does the sound become distorted at high volume?
Distortion can result from amplifier clipping, excessive gain, or pushing the speakers beyond their limits. Reduce the volume or gain and verify the amplifier is supplying clean power within the speakers' capabilities.
- • Why does one speaker sound weaker than the other?
Check the stereo's balance and fade settings, then inspect the speaker wiring and terminals. Reversed polarity, loose connections, or a problem with the vehicle's factory wiring can cause uneven output.
- • Can I run them from my factory head unit without an amplifier?
Yes, many users run them successfully from factory or aftermarket radios. However, available power varies by vehicle. If you want significantly louder output, an appropriately matched amplifier can provide additional headroom.
- • Why do the highs sound too strong or harsh?
The built-in tweeter can produce prominent high frequencies depending on the vehicle and listening position. Adjust the radio's treble or equalizer settings and check that the speakers are mounted and aimed properly.
- • Why does the speaker sound worse after installing it in an adapter bracket?
The speaker should sit securely and as flush as possible against the mounting surface. Gaps, protruding bracket tabs, or an unstable fit can reduce bass and introduce unwanted vibrations, so correct the mounting before tuning.

Purchased these fosgate speakers to replace the stock speakers in my civic that made me not even want to have the radio on. I've had them for about a week now and they sound great especially for the 30 dollar price tag, definitely can't go wrong.

I installed these speakers in a 2005 Toyota tundra, replacing the oem speakers and retained the oem JBL radio. First, there is an immediately noticeable drop in volume. Sensitivity is rated at 91 db, not the best, nor the worst. The highest I have seen is 93 db, for at least twice the price. Second, the sound quality took a dive. At low volume the base can be heard, mid and treble are muted, at higher volume the mid range blasts out past the base and treble. Heck, the treble is now turned to max and it's way in the back ground. These speakers are not linear at all. I was hoping for a small bump in performance but instead I am living with a sound quality that is actually lower than what the paper coned, plain jane, oem speakers delivered. Even if I put an amp in, I think these speakers would still sound bad.

Sound Great

I put these speakers in the doors of my 84 F-150 hooked to a Sony head unit at 52w per channel. I am very impressed with the quality and sound of these speakers. Will not handle a lot of db on low end range, but with the head unit i have i am able to filter out the lowest range on front and put it on my subs, and what i get is crystal clear sound at any volume i have on my deck. Even though the site said it was a direct fit, i had to make the holes in door a little bigger to accomodate these speakers. but other than that i have no complaints with them. they live up to the Fosgate name!
